apestaartje : gradual music and active listening

Apestaartje was founded in chicago in 1998 as a media arts collective as well as a record label to distribute our audio works. Since then we have expanded to work with artists from Tokyo, Austria, Canada, Italy, Germany, France and Australia and we continue to collaborate and make new alliances with artists from across the globe. The basic premise for all of our work comes from an acute interest in both gradual development and extremely detailed listening. We utilize various software based technologies and techniques as well as expanding on many traditions from the past. Our most recent projects focus on extending the inherent characteristics of various acoustic sounds and instruments through live processing and layering. Apestaartje is based in Brooklyn, NY.
